December is National Stress-Free Family Holiday Month. That is really hard to believe considering all that goes into making the month the best holiday that the family has ever seen. Here are a few tips to make your holiday season similar to the title that it has gained, "stress-free"!

Is December Really Stress Free?

The month of December has been given the national title of Stress-Free Family Holiday Month. That seems a little far-fetched once you actually think about all the work and things that go into planning and arranging the perfect holiday season in your own home. The holidays are really extremely harsh on many people. There is shopping to be done, parties to be planned, cards to be mailed out, and don’t forget about all of the cooking and Baking. Here are few tips to help you relieve some of the stress and ways to survive the holidays because it can be done.

For decorating, the best day is usually a few days after Thanksgiving has ended. Then you are not rushing to get your tree and lights up. Make a list of what items you would like to put up first. The tree is probably the best place to start because it the most demanding and you want to go ahead and get that out of the way. When you are taking down decorations from the previous year, organize them so that they can be easily found. And do not tangle up your Christmas lights. Use a rubber band or a twist tie to bind them together so they don’t become twisted or tangled. Masking tape can also be used for binding the lights. But make sure that it is not so strong that it will pop or break the lights.

Always ask for help when you are putting decorations on the outside of your home. It is not safe to be hanging things when you have no one to help. You could fall from a ladder or the roof and seriously be injured. And that would not be fun for your holiday. Definitely make sure that the weather permits you to be outside.

Everyone knows that the day after Thanksgiving is one of the biggest shopping days of the year. It marks the start of Christmas shopping. And it is probably one of the most stressful events for this season. Businesses open at the earliest of hours just have customers plow their way through to the best sales and deals. Manners go right out of the window when it comes to gift shopping and a sale. There should be shopping etiquette for the day after Thanksgiving. But everyone is not going to be as mild-mannered as you hope, but there are things that you may want to do to make your shopping trips as smooth and safe as possible.

The day before, gas up your vehicles. This will save you from making to many unnecessary stops and will allow you more time to take care of the tasks at hand. Also, the day before, you may want to chart out a certain route of where you need to go. Map out certain roads and stores that you would like to visit or Travel to. Put all of your circulars or newspaper near your keys so that you will have them if they are needed. You may need a certain coupon from one of them. You may want to go ahead and cut the coupons out to save time. Make a list of items that you would like to purchase or of everyone that you are buying gifts for. Pay with cash tender when you can and if you have to pay with a credit or debit card, always keep up with tickets and receipts. If you are going out with a group, have them go to different sections of a store and buy specific items that are on your wish list. You may also think about shopping throughout the entire year. Sales also happen other days as well and not just after Thanksgiving.

One growing trend in this world of technology is purchasing your gifts online. It greatly reduces stress if you don’t like crowds and want to be in the comfort of your own home. And you don’t have to be early to rise to get great deals. Many companies have great deals just for online shoppers. When using a credit or debit card, make sure that you are on a secured site. This means that you are less likely to have your identity stolen or your card numbers taken from you. It is best to use more trustworthy sites.

For the actual Christmas dinner or get-together, don’t put too much pressure on yourself to do everything. Ask others to bring a special food or ask them to help you prepare the meal. Family and friends should have no problem with helping to clean up or aide you in the things that need to be done. If you would like, you could even consider hiring a caterer for your dinner. And if money is no option, servers would be great to have as well. Then afterwards, you may think about enlisting the help of a cleaning service.

The holidays have been dubbed “stress-free” because that is what they should be. You should be able to enjoy the time that you have with your family and loved ones. It may not be every single day that you all come together as one. Because when everyone leaves, you will be thinking about all the stress that will come along with Christmas of the next year.
