Wherever there is a special occasion, there is sure to be a speech given or a toast made. And because we don't usually spend each day given out speeches at parties, it may be harder to come up with great ideas for your topic and ways to make yourself more confident.
Cheers! Creating a Toast. There is an upcoming special occasion and you have been given the pleasure of standing in front of lots of people and delivering the speech of a lifetime. If you have never given a speech or toast before it can be a little scary, especially for someone who suffers from fear of public speaking. But here are some tips and ideas on writing a wonderful speech and delivering it to your crowd. There are lots of special occasions that you may be speaking for. Your brother or sister could be getting married and you are the best man or maid of honor. You could also be giving a toast for your son or daughter who painstakingly graduated from high school or college. Or you may even be giving a special speech to a friend who is expecting a baby. The opportunities are endless.
Whatever the special occasion may be, you really need to think about who your speech is being written to or about. Think about their personality and decide what they would want you to say about them and their character. Also, you must think of type of event that is being given. If you are at a wedding, you want to say something that is personal but also in good taste. Don’t ever be rude and hurt someone’s feelings. Do not embarrass anyone. And that is best done in anything that you do or write.
Think about the events that led up to the special occasion. If your child is graduating, write about different school years such as kindergarten on up to graduation day. And think about the accomplishments that the child has done such as passing a huge test or getting through a play or talent show. If you are giving a toast at a wedding reception, you may want to ask the couple about special things that happen in their courtship and while they dated. Think about a funny event that happened to both of them and share it with everyone. And if you are celebrating your own anniversary and letting everyone know how you feel, talk about things that are very special and close to your house, from your first date to the day you got married. Just let them know what they mean to you. And giving a toast doesn’t necessarily mean you have to give a speech. You could recite a poem that reflects the special occasion. Or if you had the stage presence, you may want to sing a song such as the couples favorite song. You can even get creative and make a personalized video for the guest-of-honor. Collect photographs from different family and friends. If you are not the creative type and cannot come up with anything for the occasion, you do have other alternatives. There are people who write things especially for people. There are creative writers. And there are also people who specialize i n poetry and speech writing. Just be sure to let them know certain details that you would like to include. You have come up with the perfect toast for that right moment, but you have to make sure that you know how to deliver it. Many people suffer from stage fright or hate public speaking. All you need to do is exude a little bit of confidence. Standing tall and breathing in and out slowly will help you speak clearly and not be as nervous. Include some humorous jokes in your speech to cut the tension and set everyone at ease. It is also a great icebreaker. And you will see that your time will pass by quickly and effortlessly. Introduce yourself first to the group as some people may not know who you are. Let everyone know the reason that brings you there and what exactly it is that you will be doing. Let them know if you are giving a toast, reading a poem, or any other activity. Continue on with your speech. Try not to make it sound like you have it written down in front of you. Speak as if you were simply speaking from your mind and heart and whatever came out should be said without showing rehearsal.
Don’t settle for choosing the first speech or toast that you write. It may take more than one try to say just the perfect thing to someone. And you want to touch hearts and show your true feelings. If you just trust yourself and your skills, you should have no problem with writing and letting everyone know how much they mean to you.
