A Vintage Christmas
With all the growing trends that we see in our daily lives, it is always great to just sit back and enjoy the simple things, the basics. And for the holidays, there are lots of great themes to choose from. Choosing a retro, vintage theme is a great way of showing off your designer characteristics. But with all of the growing trends, white trees, big decorations, tons of lights, how do you decide which items are the simplest?

Many people have gone out of control when it comes to decorating. There are lights on the roof, in the bushes and even some on the car. And you always wonder just how much those people are willing to pay for an electric bill. And some houses you almost instantly get a migraine to look at. One or two simple decorations outside are great. You may want to just trim out the eaves of your home and put out a lawn ornament or two that is Christmas related. One of the most popular, vintage decorations for the outside would be the Nativity scene. It is a classic decoration that everyone can still appreciate. Also, placing a wreath on the door is a good idea.

The obvious traditional Christmas colors are probably red and green. Silver and white are also colors that are great for the winter holidays. Deep reds such as burgundy are great and nothing like the bright purples and blues that are being used today.

For the inside of the home, you also want to do a minimum of decorations. You do not want the inside of you home to become a fire hazard. You want guests to feel comfortable and not cramped. And you want them to be able to appreciate the simplicity of the holidays. Everyone has probably gone through a ton of stress what with their own decorating and gift shopping. Let them feel cozy and relaxed in your home.

Place one or two of your favorite Centerpieces on your mantel above your fireplace or even on the coffee table if you don’t have a mantel. And don’t get too crazy with your Christmas tree. Ten strands of lights are really not neccesary. The less you have on a tree, the more simple it becomes. Less is always more. Take your time and choose a few of your favorite ornaments to place on your tree. Handmade ornaments frrom your kids or even your own childhood make great vintage designs. And crocheted ornaments from your mother, grandmother, or aunt also have a great vintage look.

Use green garland to accent your home. It is soft and resembles the needles from the tree. One of the most favorite accents would be the famously popular mistletoe. And everyone will definitely love getting a peck from that special someone. Holly leaves and berries also work great. But be sure that you don’t put them to close to food that you are serving. You do not want to contaminate anything that you or guests will be consuming.

Just have fun with anything that you are doing for the holidays. Be creative but always keep your creativeness to a minimum if you want to have a classic, conservative, vintage look.
